Motorbikes Terrorising Local Suburbs

Media Releases

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, is calling on the Newcastle Local Area Command to do more to stop local suburbs being terrorised by motorbike riders.

On Saturday, local football games at Federal Park at Wallsend were interrupted by a motorbike who rode across the fields through the middle of games being played.

There have been similar incidents at Jesmond and Shortland where the local football fields are also being damaged and dug up by motorbikes.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“We need to crack down on these young motorbike riders before something serious happens.”

“On Saturday a motorbike rode right through the middle of games being played at Federal Park at Wallsend. It was just lucky that nobody was hit by the rider.”

“Motorbikes have also been reported doing similar things at Jesmond and Shortland.”

“The bikes are also being used to cause extensive damage with riders tearing up local playing fields.”

“This is not the first time that this has happened. There have been numerous reports of motorbikes riding through games right around the Wallsend electorate.”

“We need to see some action taken to stop this idiotic action.”

“Local Police are doing their best to track down the culprits with limited staff and resources, but they need more support.”

“I will be raising the matter again with the Local Area Commander and hopefully we will see an end to this action.”

I received a response from the NSW Police Local Area Command advising me that they will be taking action against these riders.
