Media Releases

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has welcomed the news that four schools across the Wallsend electorate will receive school zone flashing lights.

The schools that will receive new school zone flashing lights are:

  • Beresfield Public School on Anderson Drive
  • Maryland Public School on Boundary Road
  • St Phillips Christian College Waratah on Bridge Street
  • Wallsend Public School on Brooks Street

The existing school zone signs will be removed and the new signs with flashing lights will be installed with work expected to be complete by early March.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“This is a great outcome for our local school communities with many of these schools waiting years for these new signs.”

“Some of the schools have been battling for the lights to be installed as the roads they will be put on are major roads.”

“I know many parents at the Beresfield Public School have been pushing hard to get the flashing lights on Anderson Drive after lights were put on Lawson Avenue a few years ago.”

“There are more school zones that need flashing lights and I will continue to work hard to have those sites included in the next round.”

“The announcement is a timely reminder that school zones are back in place as of today, so please make sure you slow down around school zones during school zone times.”
