Notice Of Motion On Speed Limit Reduction

Media Releases

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, will today move a Notice of Motion in the NSW Parliament, calling on the Minister to release the data behind the decision to reduce the speed limit along Thomas Street, Newcastle Road and Griffiths Road.

The Notice of Motion notes the recent decision to reduce the limits and the reluctance of the Minister and the Roads and Maritime Services to provide information or a briefing for Ms Hornery.

Ms Hornery has written to both the Minister and the local RMS management asking for information but there has been no response after 14 days.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“The Minister and local RMS management have gone to ground on this matter and haven’t responded to my calls, emails or letters.”

“It is really disappointing that the information behind this decision has not been forthcoming. It is really important for me to be able to have a conversation with the community about decisions such as this speed limit reduction.”

“There is widespread community anger and confusion around this decision and as the local Member I would like to be able to provide an explanation to my electorate, but without the information that is not possible.”

“My office has been inundated with calls and emails asking why?”

“I would have thought that this was a simple request, but the RMS and the Minister continue to dodge all questions being asked about this.”

“If they won’t answer my calls and emails then I will try and bring on a debate in Parliament about it.”
