Transport Minister Threatens Interchange Funding

Media Releases

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has called on the Premier to step in after Transport Minister, Andrew Constance, appeared to threaten any future funding for the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange at Glendale.

During a division to censure the Transport Minister on Tuesday, Mr Constance can be heard to shout towards the Opposition benches “Hey Lake Macquarie, there goes Glendale Interchange.”

The Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange has been the number one endorsed infrastructure project by Hunter Councils since 2011 and is vital for future growth in the region.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“This shows Andrew Constance’s contempt for the Wallsend electorate and common decency.”

“The bully boy tactics coming from the Minister for Transport are unbelievable. He might be feeling threatened in his job, but that is no reason to threaten the number one infrastructure project in the Hunter.”

“Under his watch, infrastructure and transport in the Hunter has become a shambles. It needs to stop.”

“The Property Council has pushed the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange as a priority project for funding in the next State Government budget, and the project has drawn support from the NRMA, Hunter Councils, the Hunter Business Chamber and Regional Development Australia.”

“It’s time for the Premier to step in.”
