CONTRACT FOR BYPASS WORKS WELCOMED

August 28, 2019chad_admin

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has welcomed the long awaited announcement that a contract has been awarded for the first stage of works for the Newcastle Inner City Bypass Stage 5.

The first stage of works will involve the construction of the shared pathway over Newcastle Road and the removal of the traffic lights at Jesmond Park.

Ms Hornery has been calling for the Bypass works to be fast-tracked so there is no overlap with the planned upgrade of the John Hunter Hospital.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“Finally.”

“This announcement has been a long time coming and many people thought this was a project that would never come to fruition.”

“I look forward to seeing construction underway as soon as possible, and the next stage of tenders for construction of the road works being fast-tracked.”

“The Bypass is much-needed to help reduce traffic congestion on our local road network and with plans to upgrade the John Hunter Hospital, it is vital that these works are completed as soon as possible.”
