State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, is calling on residents who don’t wish to receive a copy of the White Pages and Yellow Pages to cancel the delivery of the phone book.
Residents are able to visit the directory select website and cancel or order books as required.
Ms Hornery is encouraging anyone who has no use for the books anymore to log on and cancel their order.
Ms Hornery will also write to the company that produces and delivers the phone books to see if the system can become an opt-in system, rather than an opt-out.
Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery
“Like me, many residents get the White Pages and Yellow Pages delivered annually and either put them straight in the recycling bin or in some corner of the house to collect dust or raise the height of their computer monitor.”
“Instead of getting the unwanted phone books, residents can simply go online and cancel the delivery of the books.”
“I know many people like to receive their White and Yellow Pages and they can still do that, but the majority just end up in the bin.”
“To cancel your order, visit https://www.directoryselect.com.au/action/home or just jump onto my Facebook page and follow the link.”
“I will also follow this up with the company that produces and delivers the books to see if it can be changed to an opt-in scheme given the number of people who have contacted me about this.”
