Parliament Passes Motion to Continue Free Parking for Hospital Workers

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has welcomed the passing of her Notice of Motion in the NSW Parliament, to continue free parking for hospital workers.

Health Minister, Brad Hazzard MP, announced in April this year that parking at hospitals would be free for all hospital workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July, Ms Hornery moved a Notice of Motion in Parliament following concerns that the free parking was likely to be withdrawn.

On Thursday last week, the NSW Parliament debated the Motion and unanimously passed it, which will now see the successful free parking scheme for all NSW hospitals continue.

“This is a great win for our hospital workers,” said Ms Hornery.

“This was a very important issue for our hospital workers who were concerned that the free parking was about to be withdrawn.

“The Notice of Motion was unanimously supported by all in the Parliament with more than 13 Members of Parliament speaking on the Motion.

“Our hospital workers have been on the frontline of our battle with COVID-19 and we need to do whatever we can to support them during this difficult time.

“The Parliament passing this Motion shows our appreciation for all indispensable frontline workers in NSW hospitals by continuing the free parking for staff.

“I recently met and spoke with workers and they have told me how their morale has been lifted by the implementation of free parking for staff at hospitals.

“This is a stressful time for our hospital staff, who are doing vital work to keep the community safe and this simple gesture goes a long way to show staff they are supported during this health crisis.

“I thank the NSW Parliament for backing me on this important issue,” Ms Hornery said.
