More Job Losses For Wallsend

Media Releases

State Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP, has expressed her disappointment with news that up to 30 jobs would be lost from Ausgrid at Wallsend.

Workers have been advised that up to 30 people would lose their jobs and their positions would be moved to Sydney.

In October last year the Government announced the sale of Ausgrid and trumpeted the fact that it would lead to cheaper prices and better service.

The job losses are another kick in the guts for the Wallsend electorate following the decision last year by the Government to not build the new rail stock here in the Hunter.

Quotes attributable to Member for Wallsend, Sonia Hornery

“This decision by Ausgrid is yet another blow to the Wallsend electorate who, are already reeling from the decision to offshore jobs in the rail industry.”

“Last year Mike Baird and Gladys Berejiklian announced the sale of Ausgrid for $16 billion and said loud and proud that it would result in cheaper electricity prices and better service.”

“Mike Baird even issued a contract to the people of NSW telling them he would stake his job on it. We have seen Mike slink off into the corporate world and avoid the scrutiny of his decisions.”

“We have seen massive job losses in the sector over the last 2 years and jobs continue to be lost from the Hunter to Sydney, all as a result of the Government’s obsession with privatising the assets of NSW.”

“This is yet another example of a Government who doesn’t care about the people of the Wallsend electorate.”

“Workers are being kicked to the kerb and the Government has washed its hands of all responsibility.”
